Ariel Zuckermann
FLUTE, CONDUCTOR
Ariel Zuckermann is a musical free spirit and explorer of artistic boundaries. His wide-ranging knowledge of repertoire from all musical periods is reflected in ingenious and compelling programmes. His technical and musical standards, coupled with irrepressible creativity, energy and humanity, act as a magnet for orchestras, soloists and audiences alike.
In 2020 he was reappointed Principal Conductor of the Georgian Chamber Orchestra Ingolstadt—now renamed Kammerphilharmonie Ingolstadt under his direction. He also enjoys a close and regular collaboration with the Poznan Philharmonic Orchestra, which named him Principal Guest Conductor in 2023. From 2015–2023 he was Music Director of the Israel Chamber Orchestra, where he actively shaped the Israeli music scene and its cultural policy.
Ariel Zuckermann started his musical path as a flautist before turning to conducting in 2001, working in 2004 as assistant to Ivan Fischer with the Budapest Festival Orchestra, and has since led many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic, Bayerisches Staatsorchester, the Budapest Festival Orchestra, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne, German Radio Philharmonic, Tonkünstler Orchestra, NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, Bamberg Symphony, Lucerne Symphony, Sinfonieorchester Basel, Danish National Symphony, Hungarian National Philharmonic, Bremen Philharmonic, Camerata Salzburg, the Zurich, Basel and Stuttgart Chamber Orchestras, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Orquesta Filarmónica de Gran Canaria, Haydn Orchestra of Bolzano and Trento, KBS Radio Orchestra Seoul, Taipei Symphony, and the Riga Sinfonietta. He made his opera debut at the Gärtnerplatztheater in Munich, and many of his concerts and projects have been recorded.
As a flautist he has won several prizes in national and international competitions and performed worldwide as soloist and chamber musician, including with the renowned Swiss Klezmer band Kolsimcha – The World Quintet, most recently recording with the London Symphony Orchestra. His debut album as both flutist and conductor, featuring the three flute concertos by C.P.E. Bach, was met with enthusiastic reviews for its stylistic sensitivity and refined musicianship.
He studied flute at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich with Paul Meisen and András Adorján and continued his studies with Alain Marion and Aurèle Nicolet. He later studied conducting with Bruno Weil at the Musikhochschule München and with Jorma Panula at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm.
